Carinya Christian School - Phone: 6762 0970
The Christian beliefs of the school are set out in the first 20 chapters of the Westminster Confession of Faith. The school believes that these chapters faithfully reflect what the Bible teaches about God and His plan for the salvation of His people through the death of His Son, Jesus Christ. As a school Carinya is committed to a Christ Centred educational curriculum and school environment based on the truths found in these chapters of the Westminster Confession. Because the Bible is God's word, it informs thinking and understanding in every area of the curriculum and the life of the school. Because the Bible speaks about all of life, so does the school. At Carinya, what we believe about the Lord Jesus Christ is integrated in the curriculum and life of the school in a natural and transparent way. There are no formal, compulsory religious activities or services offered as an addition to the regular curriculum. On the contrary, the school seeks to acknowledge Jesus Christ in every area of school life. Therefore, on the basis of what we believe the bible teaches about the world, students are encouraged to examine and confront the complexities and realities of the world in which we live and to consider how they can serve the Lord more faithfully in that world.

The provision of a safe and caring environment within both the boarding and day sections of the school is of paramount importance to us as it is this harmonious cooperation that is the best vehicle for student productivity and progress. It also forms the basis for the many long lasting friendships and memories that are forged upon joining the ?Farrer Family?. The strong links between the elements of this Farrer family are of immense importance. Our aim of ?producing thinking, well educated, skilled, flexible and caring people? is very dependent upon the continued support, input and high-level communication between all members of our community ? students, staff, parents and caregivers. This joint approach to our emphases upon loyalty, respect, trust and responsibility can only benefit all concerned. Tamworth Public School - Phone: 6766 2016
Tamworth Public School is the first government school in Tamworth. It was established in 1855 as the National School in Darling Street where Tamworth Community Centre has been built. An Englishman, John Crawford, commenced instructions on 13 April 1855 with an enrolment of 38 pupils. There were problems with furniture and equipment and in addition "no fence, closet or water". Flocks of goats regularly caused havoc in and around the school. As Tamworth's population increased, so did the number of pupils and this led to overcrowding at the school. By 1875 it was reported "the building was not fit habitation" so a site in Upper Street was chosen for a new school. The new three room school of "brick with a shingle roof" was opened in July 1877, with George Hill as the Headmaster. By the end of the year the staff of two teachers had an enrolment of 206, an average of 103 pupils per teacher. In 1885 the school was declared a Superior Public School which meant that it could have secondary classes. By 1890 the enrolment was 507 and accommodation was overtaxed with several nearby church halls being used for classes. Separate infants, boys and girls departments operated at this time. Additions were made to the buildings and in 1919 Tamworth High School was established on the Brisbane - Napier Street corner. In 1922 an infants building was constructed near Bourke Street. It was decided to demolish the boys department of the original school and in 1935 a two storey brick building was completed. Each of the six classrooms was designed to accommodate 48 pupils. The school became co-educational in 1962 after Tamworth High School moved to its present site in South Tamworth. The primary school moved into the former High School building. Many portable rooms were removed and grassing of additional playground areas commenced. The school reached the peak of its enrolments in the 1970's when around 1200 pupils were in attendance. The current enrolment is approximately 700 students. Tamworth Public School has a strong sense of tradition and history. It continues to serve its community with outstanding learning and significant achievements across the full range of educational experiences.
